It's important to eat 6 small meals a day. That means you are eating every 2-3 hours. Most people think that because they are "dieting" that means you must eat less, right? This is a big NO NO. Your body NEEDS that fuel to burn more calories and help you stay energized so you can workout and go about your day without having a blood sugar crash and end up eating more in one setting because you are starving. If you do not fuel your body and skip meals your body goes into starvation mode. In starvation mode no matter what you eat your body will store those calories because it thinks it is starving.
Now your probably thinking.. How can I eat that often and still maintain my healthy calorie intake a day. Below I have listed a few snacks (calorie count included).
1 Rice cake, low sodium topped with 1 TBSP nut butter and 1/2 small banana sliced on top - 110 calories
1 kiwi fruit with 1/4 cup nonfat strawberry yogurt for dipping - 82 calories
1/2 cup low-fat cottage cheese, 6oz canned peaches, drained (or 1/4 cup berries)- 154 calories
12 raw almonds- 87 calories
1 hard boiled egg- 68 calories
1 small baked sweet potato topped with a dash of nutmeg and 1 tsp. honey- 83 calories
